The European-Atlantic Group
An apolitical interest group registered in 1954 with Parliament
David is Director-General of the EAG.
The European-Atlantic Group (The E-AG) is one of the longest running Interest Groups associated with Parliament. It was formed in 1954 to consider international relations of the Americas and Europe and related matters arising in any quarter of the globe. The aim of the E-AG is to shed new light on these topics in an independent, non-party political setting and to ventilate them in a high level and challenging forum where differing opinions are heard out with respect. Experts and commentators and members of the public discuss with those at the helm of affairs how best to resolve issues of contention. Speakers are invited to advocate practical solutions. The E-AG has evolved to interpret and develop an in-depth perspective on global issues.

Prior to 1945 it was thought inconceivable that any world body could ensure the horrors of the previous six years were not to be repeated. The League of Nations, to which America did not belong, had done nothing to prevent the most horrific war ever experienced.
In speaking to the founding of the United Nations in the Opera House in San Francisco in 1945 President Truman said 'We must make certain by your work here today that another war will be impossible'. It is however readily apparent that the United Nations has not achieved its objective and in one of his letters of support Jim Callaghan, former British Prime Minister, attributed this at least in part to the advent of the Cold War. The concept of Shield would address the shortcomings of the UN and ensure sovereign warfare would become an impossibility.
